Car Parking Charges

Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council is consulting on changes to car park charges at a number of locations across the borough.

Three factors in particular have prompted these changes:

  1. The increases in costs of operating car parks. This includes business rates, security and maintenance.
  2. Evidence that some car parks are frequently full with cars parked for long periods which makes it harder for shoppers and visitors to find spaces.
  3. Current inconsistencies in charging with some car parks operating charges and others providing parking for free.

New Parking Charges

Introduction of charges in Aylesford – Bailey Bridge (East) and Bailey Bridge (West) car parks
The Bailey Bridge (East) and (West) car parks in Aylesford currently have no parking charges but are well used. The car park suffers from a low turnover long-stay parking which reduces the availability of spaces for all users. It is proposed that the car park should have charges introduced to reduce long-stay parking and help improve parking space “turnover” and allow more parking for residents, shoppers and visitors.

Extended parking areas

Extension to Aylesford Bailey Bridge East car park
We are also proposing to improve and extend the Bailey Bridge (East) car park to create a further 15 to 30 Pay & Display and Season Ticket parking spaces (depending on design and layout), available to all to use.
